Photo Friday: Evolution Emerging 2015

Canyons-1

Been a while since I shared some shots, hasn’t it? So how about a wee catch-up on the sets I’ve photographed in recent weeks? First up, this year’s Evolution Emerging Festival, which took place in venues across the wonderful Ouseburn valley back in May. Every year, North-East music development agency Generator dedicates a night to the best of the independent scene – it’s a great evening for discovering hidden gems. Having missed last year’s due to the Edinburgh Half-Marathon, I was well looking forward to getting stuck into some new, up-and-coming music – that and getting some shots too!

I had just one rule for the fest – nothing but brand new bands to me all night. Kylver‘s beautifully layered, doom-tinged soundscapes came thanks to a recommendation from Graeme Baty (now at Blank Slate). Meanwhile three bands came from pure curiosity – The Glass Caves and Samantha Durnan starting to pick up a bit of a buzz on the scene. As for Lisbon, they proved to be a glorious choice to close the night.

However, two of my favourite picks of the night were bands that I didn’t get to photograph properly – the effervescent Antlez and triumphant indie popsters Canyons, who both played Little Buildings. Lovely wee venue, but very tricky to capture bands in. If you’d like to know why I was so glad to catch them regardless, here’s your chance. I’ve embedded a playlist of all the bands I saw that night at the bottom of this post, so you’ve got a little something to listen to while looking at these shots. Enjoy!
