Event Horizon – Digital Wor(l)ds

Words cannot express how genuinely excited I am to bring you this news. Sponsored by the Glasgow in 2024 Worldcon bid, Russell Jones and I will be co-hosting ‘Digital Wor(l)ds’, a video games special edition of Shoreline of Infinity‘s Event Horizon series, on 22nd October. Bringing together the cream of UK games design, research, music and writing, we’ll be indulging our love of the medium as we explore the best of Science Fictional and Fantasy gaming, its impacts, and possible future(s).

So, who have we got? Well, firstly, there’s Graeme McKellan from No Code, the team who created near-future AI space thriller Observation, and the disturbing Stories Untold. Game narrative fans will also be delighted to see Corey Brotherson (Silver Rain Games, Windrush Tales) in his other guise as prose author. Joining him on the writer front will be Stephen Sexton, award-winning author of If All The World and Love Were Young, an exploration of death through the lens of Super Mario Brothers. If Games Studies is more your scene, then we’ve got two of the most promising upcoming researchers, Gabriel Elvery (University of Glasgow) and Charly Harbord (Abertay University), discussing how games can help improve mental health and share indigenous cultural heritage, as well as increase diversity in tech industries. And finally, we have the celebrated chiptune musician Theremin Hero to top and tail the night.

In short, food for the heart, soul, and brain. Russell and I have been messaging each other with ideas about this event since the before times, and we’re utterly made-up to finally bring you this one.
