Music Monday: Record Store Day 2014

I’m going to admit it, I’m not the world’s biggest fan of vinyl. If I can’t carry it around in my pocket – or easily copy it to a digital format – then I’m probably not going to listen to it. However, I do love a well put together release – and, more importantly, independent record stores. So I’ll be sneaking out of Eastercon this Saturday 19th April for Record Store Day 2014 – probably to catch Bridie Jackson and the Arbour at Love Music‘s live band shenanigans – and aiming to pick up one or two of these…

Anathema, At The Gates, Beach Boys, Beans on Toast, Between the Buried and Me, Bis, Botch, Cave In, Clint Mansell, Clutch / Lionize, Conor Oberst, Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip, David Bowie, David Lynch, Dean Martin, Devo, Dinosaur JR, Dream Theater, Dresden Dolls, Elbow, Fela Kuti, Flaming Lips, Fleetwood Mac, Frank Zappa, Garbage, Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly, Grace Jones, Grateful Dead, Green Day, Hawkwind, Husker Du, Ice T, Insomnium, Johnny Cash, John Spencer Blues Explosion, Joy Division, Katastrophy Wife, Katatonia, Kings of Leon, Kodaline, Kylie Minogue, LCD Soundsystem, Lee Perry, Lemonheads, Luke Haines, Machine Head, Mae, Marc Bolan, Marillion, Mastodon, Matt Berry, Maximo Park, Motorhead, Mudhoney, The Muppet Movie OSR, Neil Young, Nina Persson, Nina Simone, Nirvana, The Notwist, Opeth, Ozric Tentacles, Pet Shop Boys, Pharoahe Monch, Pissed Jeans, Placebo, The Pogues, REM, Radkey, Rammstein, Ray Parker Jr, Rival Sons, Roger Waters, The Stones, Screaming Trees, Sensefield, Shlohmo, Shonen Knife, Sick of it all, Sikth, Songs:Ohia, Soundgarden, The Specials, The Blockheads, Twilight Sad, Twin Atlantic, Ulver, Masters of Misery – Homage to Black Sabbath, Satellite of Love, Xtra Mile 10th anniversary box set, Winnebago Deal.

Unfortunately, most of that’ll have to wait until I win the lottery. So I’ve narrowed it down to the following:

Eastercon: Satellite 4 – Scheduled Orbit

It’s almost Easter, so it’s almost Eastercon! The BSFA’s annual convention has moved to Glasgow, and I’ll be making my programme debut this year. As I mentioned yesterday, I’m doing my first ever book signing, when La Femme launches at the Newcon Press / PS Publishing party on the Friday.

That’s not all. I’ll be crossing another first off my list this year, when I appear on two of Eastercon’s convention panels. One of these is right before the signing on the Friday evening. So, if you fancy two hours of back-to-back Booth – and an encore on Sunday – come along, hear me waffle, and I’ll scribble all over your books. Any books, really. Magazines too. Notebooks. Toaster Ovens. Small potted palms. Treasure Maps to hoards of Mexican gold…

Here’s what I’ll be up to:

Sleeping Sentries

Hello. This is a First Post.

What do people write in a first post now? It seems like all blogs appear perfectly formed, ex machina, with posts marking every significant genre event for the last six months. Perfectly polished journal homunculi. Like an Oscar made of lolz.

If you’re here, perhaps it’s because you’ve read either one of my short stories or my writing about Rock and Metal, or maybe you’ve seen my live photos, right? Thank you very much for stopping by, whichever it is. I’ll be using this space to ramble on about things I’m up to, as well as anything else that snags on brain debris as it drifts through my consciousness.

That could be quite a lot of stuff. We recently had a tornado. Took the A Perfect Circle archive right off its hinges.

In the meantime, why not take a moment to explore some of the links at the top and side of the page for more cool stuff? I’ll be with you soon.
