Incoming: In the Digital Dreams of NewCon Press…

More on 2016 releases from me – and this time, I’ve got some fiction news for you.

Digital Dreams - a NewCon Press Anthology

As part of their 10th anniversary celebrations, NewCon Press are releasing Digital Dreams – an eBook only retrospective celebrating the imprint’s history of publishing great women authors. Ian Whates has a wonderful selection to choose from, so it’s no surprise to find such luminaries as Lauren Beukes, Kim Lakin-Smith, Pat Cadigan, Justina Robson, Tricia Sullivan, Jaine Fenn, and Nina Allen all contributing tales. It’ll be well worth picking up.

I’m proud to say that my story ‘The Honey Trap’ will also be appearing alongside them. This tale first appeared in the NewCon anthology Noir, and won the Best Short Fiction prize at the BSFA awards earlier this year.

For more information, the full Table of Contents – and pre-order link – are both online now.

New Story: Good Boy

After a slight delay, the January issue of Far Horizons is available online now. Amongst this month’s jam-packed issue of eclectic offerings, they’ve given a home to ‘Good Boy’, a new piece of flash fiction by me. Angela Gonyea-Sheffer provided the lovely artwork for this, my first illustrated story.

Bits & Bobs: New Story, New Photos, New Reviews, New Blogs and New Bols

Back at the end of September, I drafted a Bits & Bobs post, due to go up the following week. I finished it all off, save leaving room for adding photos… and promptly forgot about it. Sorry folks! Busyness is no excuse, but needless to say, a bunch of stuff has happened since my last one of these. I’ve been a panelist at the biggest con I’ve yet attended. I’ve had my first experience of Redcoating. Alongside that, there’s a bunch of new articles and some photos online… I’m afraid this is a bit of a monster catch-up as a result, but hopefully worth a browse nonetheless.

NEW FICTION

An advance warning first – I’ve got a brand new story coming out in 2015. Fox Spirit has announced the latest in their Fox Pockets series.

Bits & Bobs: *UPDATED* The Lake Poets, Girl At The End Of The World, and Monuments

And SHAZAM – August! How did that happen? Things have been a bit quiet on the blog front, but that’s because things have been so busy on the work front. Hopefully more on that soon…

First, though, here’s a wee update on a couple few things published in the last few weeks.

NEW FICTION

THE GIRL AT THE END OF THE WORLD, Vol. 1 & 2

Out now. Spread across two volumes, this collection of apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic fiction includes stories from Adrian Tchaikovsky, James Oswald, Margret Helgadottir and many more. You’ll find my story ‘Blueprint for Red Wings’ amongst them.

There’s also two variant covers for each one – the one above is my favourite for volume 1. Available from the usual outlets…

Still to come… Photos of Blacklisters, Martha, General Sherman, the last ever Rivals set, Eliza Carthy, Fran Muriel, and rare By Toutatis shots.

Which reminds me, I’ve got a little question for you… You’ve been reading this blog for a while. Are there any bands, particularly in the North-East, that you reckon I should photograph? Give me a nudge on here or on twitter if you’ve got any thoughts.

*UPDATE* NEW REVIEW

Monuments – The Amanuensis

I knew I’d forget something.

That’s it. Now I reckon it’s time for a blog on what’s coming up… See you soon!

Ruth Runs for Mind: A Quick Thank You

I ran a Half Marathon yesterday. So here’s a quick post to say thank you.

A welcome biscuit.
A welcome biscuit.

According to the provisional timings I made it to the finish line in 2 hours, 19 minutes and 10 seconds – pretty nice for a first half marathon, I reckon. And so much the better to learn that you’ve now helped me raise more than £300 for Mind – with payday still to come!

Most of all, this is for you lot. Thank you all, so much, for all your support – whether you’ve made a donation, suggested a song to help me along, or wished me luck on the way to this day. I’ve never done so much as a fun run before now. I honestly could not have done this without you. Thank you.

While I’m still collecting up photos and things, if you’ve yet to do so, and you’d like to make a donation to my fundraising efforts for Mind, the link is here

Thank you, everyone!

Finally, I’d like to say a massive thank you to all the wonderful folks at Mind and Tyneside Mind for all their support and encouragement, as well as the organisers at the Edinburgh Marathon Festival. Thank you, guys – you’re ruddy splendid!
